Jerry Dale "Papaw" Winnett

Jerry Dale Winnett was born Thursday, May 24th, 1951 in Colbert, Oklahoma to Willie and Goldie Chelf-Winnett. Jerry passed from his life on October 19th, 2024 in Denison, Texas at the age of 73, surrounded by his family.

“Red” as he was known by all that knew and loved him, was a lifetime resident of Colbert, Oklahoma where he attended school in Achille, Oklahoma. Jerry was a lifetime farmer and loved being outside riding around on his side-by-side; he couldn’t sit still. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Onstott, on June 9th, 1972 in Achille, Oklahoma. Jerry and Cheryl were together for 52 years. Jerry loved spending time with Cheryl at their grandkid’s events, watching TV at home and the casino. He loved Cheryl with all of his heart.

Jerry was a selfless, loving, and onery man. He always made sure that his grandkids had everything they needed and more. He loved his grandkids more than anything in the world. He always checked on everyone and aggravated them when he could. His jokes and humorous personality always gave everyone a reason to smile.

Jerry is preceded in Death by his father Willie Calvin Winnett and mother Goldie ReVernon Winnett, brother Ernest Winnett, brother John Winnett and wife Annie Winnett, sister Wanda Johnson and husband T.G. Johnston, sister Mary Francis Emberling and husband Mike Emberling, brother-in-law Benny Kemper, father-in-law Bobby Glen Onstott and sister-in-law Judy Onstott.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl Winnett. His son Jeremy Winnett and wife Jennifer of Colbert, Oklahoma. His daughter Holly Weger and husband Casey of Hendrix, Oklahoma. His grandchildren Hannah Rhoades, Hadley Rhoades, Will Winnett, Chase Winnett, Sarah McBeth, and husband Drew, Macey Weger and great-grandson Carter McBeth. His sister-in-law Vera Winnett of Colbert, Oklahoma, brother Calvin Winnett and wife Joy of Calera, Oklahoma, sister Linda Kemper of Sherman, Texas, brother Melvin Winnett and wife Gloria of Calera, Oklahoma, brother Tommy Winnett and wife Veronica of Colbert, Oklahoma, mother-in-law Evelyn York of Colbert, Oklahoma, brother-in-law Bobby Onstott and wife Donna of Kaufman, Texas and sister-in-law Susan St.John and husband Tad of Roland, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 26th, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Browns Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma with Jim Mitchell officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Roy Hicks, Brent Hicks, Mike Levisay, Trey Marr, Rex Clark, Joe Bob Wright and Dino Stanglin.
