Stephen Charles Winkler

Stephen Charles Winkler
August 6, 1949 ~ March 6, 2023

Steve Winkler, age 73, died on March 6, 2023, after a short illness. Steve managed, owned and operated S&J Tire in El Reno, Oklahoma for over 40 years. People who came in to S&J looking for someone they could trust quickly became lifelong friends and clients, exchanging stories and trivia with Steve while their cars were made safe.

Steve, lovingly known as “B.S.” (Big Steve), was preceded in death by the love of his life, Karon, his Mother Kit, and Father Bill, and is survived by their children and grandchildren that brought so much joy to both their lives: son Chris Roulet and wife, Kendra; son Jacob Winkler and wife Stacy; daughter Rachael and husband Andy Wurzer, and Steve & Karon’s grandchildren Karlie, Caityn, Conner, Caroline ,Emily and Olivia. He is also survived by his brothers, Dave and wife Tammy, Peter, and Bill and wife Debra, and all his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who all loved Steve/BS for the wonderful man that he was.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 900 S. Littler Ave, Edmond, OK 73034.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Steve’s name to the attention of Darrell Palmer at The Northwest Optimist Club of Oklahoma City, PO Box 1765, Bethany, OK 73008. These funds will be used to support youth baseball at Dolese Park, where Steve spent many years mentoring, coaching and enjoying what he claimed was the best popcorn in the country.

“If the road to Heaven is made from the people’s lives one has touched in positive ways, Steve will be enjoying his stroll down a golden path surrounded by bass ponds, baseball fields and golf courses, while on his way to meet his beloved wife, Karon, and other family members who will all embrace him with open arms”.
