Losson Martin Winkler

Losson Martin Winkler
September 18, 1930 ~ January 8, 2022

Wylie, TX - Losson Martin Winkler, 91, of Wylie Texas passed peacefully into God's glory January 8, 2022.

He was born of humble beginnings in Wann, Oklahoma on September 18, 1930. While his parents loved him, he often had to be self-motivated to regularly attend school.

Losson tells of an important day when a man visited his house to spread the gospel of Jesus. While his mother was not too keen on the idea, Losson decided at a young age that he wanted to follow Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He always found comfort and encouragement from the scriptures.

Losson graduated from Copan High School in 1948. The family didn't have the funding to attend university; however, it was always something he aspired to. Instead, he entered and graduated from a local business college that taught basic bookkeeping skills. This gave him the credentials he needed to begin working for a local accounting firm.

Soon afterward he met and married the love of his life, Merlene (Brashear) Winkler on September 11, 1954. They settled in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to raise a family.

Losson soon realized that he needed additional professional credentials if he were going to support his new family. Having started in bookkeeping he knew he might have a chance to successfully pass the CPA exam. He found a correspondence course and worked every night—many times late into the early morning hours, studying to pass that exam. He passed in 1964 and soon was offered a job at Phillips Petroleum Company (now ConocoPhillips). He worked for Phillips for 25 years.

He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid quail hunter and competitive skeet shooter winning many awards and placing in the state tournament in or near the top shooters several years in a row.

Wanting to see others come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior he faithfully served at the First Church of God in Dewey, OK as Sunday school teacher, greeter and as the Treasurer for his church for many decades.

Losson and Merlene were happily married for over 50 years. During that time, they enjoyed serving in the church, traveling the world and playing golf. When he faced a major heart attack, his concern was more for his wife than for his own life. When Alzheimer's attacked Merlene's mind, Losson lovingly took great care of her during her long battle, never far from her – even when he could no longer care for her at home. He lived out true love that loves through hard times and health challenges and when even the love of his life couldn't recognize him.

Losson would readily admit that through all the challenges of life, he didn't walk through them alone. He Savior was always by his side and Jesus' Grace was sufficient to bring him through.

He is survived by his sons and their wives Gregory & Tonda Winkler of Anderson, IN and Bradley & Eileen Winkler of Wylie, TX; Grandchildren Caitlin Winkler (and spouse David Johnson), Benjamin Winkler, Maxwell Winkler, Tobias Winkler, Hannah Winkler, and Sarah Winkler; and Great Granddaughter Lily Johnson.

Losson was predeceased by his father, Losson Martin Winker, SR. and his mother, Geraldine (Winkler) Strage and his loving wife Merlene Winkler, In-laws Merlin and Violet Brashear, Brothers In-Law Allen (Kent) Brashear, and Steven (Mark) Brashear.

Friends, former colleagues and family are invited to the memorial service to be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 10:00 AM at the First Church of God, Dewey, located at 222 S Osage (HWY 75).
