James Owen "Jim" Wingerd died Sunday afternoon, March 12th, in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years.
James "Jim" Wingerd was born to Jacob Franklin and Myrtle Florence (Redmond) Wingerd on November 30, 1936 in Kingman County, Kansas. He attended Anthony Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1955. Jim married Wanda Ilene Pohlenz on June 13, 1959, in Wichita, Kansas. In 1971, he graduated from the Los Angeles Baptist College. Jim enjoyed woodworking, stained glass art and gardening. He also enjoyed singing and writing poetry. He loved to share his faith and deeply cared for people.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Ilene Wingerd of Blackwell; two daughters, Jean McDermott of Apex, North Carolina, and Jan Sanders and husband Marty of Waxhaw, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Steven, Tim and Philip McDermott, and J.R., Daniel and Annabeth Sanders; one sister, Norma Atteberry of Atlanta, Georgia; and one brother, Adair Wingerd of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Laverne Wingerd; and two sisters, Pat Baldwin and Lucille Stegeman.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 16th, at the First Baptist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Randy Ratliff officiating.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church Evangelism Outreach c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 West Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
