Chapel services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2003, 1:30 p.m., in Greenlawn, Southwest chapel for Jim Winders, 86, who passed away September 21, 2003, in Bakersfield. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery.
Jim was born April 6, 1917, in Waurika, OK. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II arriving in Kern County in 1946. He married the former Bernice Koch on March 27, 1948, a union that spanned 55 years until Jim's death.
Jim was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. He was last employed as the Assistant Superintendent of Union Cemetery for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1982.
Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working in his yard and being a wonderful and helpful neighbor. He lived in the same house for 52 years and took great pride in maintaining it and welcoming newcomers to the neighborhood. He thrived on being around all of his children and grandchildren at family gatherings. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be greatly missed by all.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bernice; sons, David Winders and wife, Bonnie of Bakersfield and Mike Tietze and wife, Jackie of Clovis; daughters, Barbara Robinson and husband, Robbie of Santa Rosa, Celie Vanderlei and husband, Steve of Bakersfield and Adelle Cooper and husband, Dual of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to The First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1705 17th St., Bakersfield, CA 93301.
No visitation is scheduled.
