Longtime Pawhuska resident Rodney D. Wilson passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla. He was 77 years old.
Rodney was born Oct. 27, 1934 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the son of Dora Dode and Maxine Elaine (Webster) Wilson. On September 21, 1953, he married the former Frances Joan Gwynn in Parkersburg, West Virginia. On Aug. 17, 1958, "Daddy Rod" and Joan moved their young family to Oklahoma, settling in Nowata. In January of 1966, they moved to Pawhuska, where they have remained.
Rodney had worked for more than 30 years as an insurance agent. He then worked as a supervisor at the Osage Casino in Hominy. A sports enthusiast, Rodney coached several little league teams over the years. He also supported the sports programs at Pawhuska High School during the time his children were in school.
Known to be a "talker," Rodney enjoyed visiting with people, especially the kids, which is why he enjoyed the time he worked at the Youth Services and detention centers. In his spare time, he loved to play golf. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of various committees.
Surviving are: his wife Joan Wilson of the home; four sons, Steve Wilson and wife Ruth, Shawn Wilson and wife Elaine, Pat Wilson and Tim Wilson's daughter Debbie Wilson Miles; two brothers, Mike Wilson and Steve Wilson; a sister Joan Petty; 12 grandchildren, Angie Miles, Laban Miles, III; Michelle Wilson Evans and husband Heath, Shawn Wilson, Jr. and fianc� Lanie, Tiffani Wilson Dabbs and husband Eric, Koty Wilson, Haylee Wilson, Tim Wilson, Jr., Kamree Wilson, Spencer Wilson, Tyler Wilson and Derek Wilson; Eight great-grandchildren, Tanaya, Chloe and Ayden Thomas, Laban, IV, and Gavin Miles, Kylee Chambers, Bella and Brody Dabbs; three special friends, Steve "Tug" Broughton, Jr., Dilon Broughton and Landon Broughton; and a host of other family and friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Beth Ann Wilson; and a grandson, Joshua M. Wilson.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska. Pastor Kathy Morris will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial to the First United Methodist Church, 621 Leahy, Pawhuska, OK 74056.
