Joe Wilson came into this world on May 31, 1943, and he left this earthly dwelling on July 20, 2020. He was a son to Nellie and Woodrow, a brother to Vern Nell, Christine, Geraldine, Jimmy Don, and Sherry, a husband to Sandra, a dad to Ricki and Mark, and a grandpa to Codi and her husband David. A Del City Eagle, a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the Carpenter’s Union, the Choctaw Chamber of Commerce, and the Jones IOOF,
Joe believed in supporting his country and his community, to which many little league teams could attest. But who was Joe, really? He was the dad who handed over the reins of his prized roping mare so his daughter Ricki could learn to run barrels, who labored all week just to hurry home on Friday evenings, load up the horses and haul his girl to a rodeo, weekend after weekend. He was the dad who got involved in FFA when his son Mark chose to show hogs, who built pens, hauled animals, worked carnivals, and made every show to support his boy. He was the grandpa who made sure his number one granddaughter Codi was well-mounted in all stages of her barrel racing career and who was bursting at the seams when he gifted her her first truck for her sixteenth birthday, and who embraced her husband David as a son. He was the husband who loved to cut a rug with Sandy, the one woman who could keep up with him on the dance floor, the husband who drove untold miles to auctions and garage sales, and who shared with Sandy the simple pleasures of reading and dominoes on the front porch—and he was always quick with the sweet talk.
Joe Wilson was a man who loved his family. Often the life of the party, and always a steady friend, Joe Wilson will not be forgotten. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Bill Eisenhour Hour Funeral home located at 8805 NE 23rd St. in Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking if you might consider making a donation to the OKC Veteran’s Administration. Donations provide Veteran patients with many essential services and programs that otherwise would not be available to them, such as transportation services, social service assistance, rehabilitation equipment, recreation programs, activities, homeless Veteran's services, holiday gifts, phone cards and many other options.
