On March 4, 2004, our beloved mother and grandmother, Elpha Aletrice Marie Wilson, 93, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ.
Services will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2801 So. Real Rd., on Wednesday, March 10. Visitation will be at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., on Tuesday, March 9, from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will be from 9:00 - 9:50 a.m., at the South Stake Center, 2801 So. Real Rd. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Elpha was born in Dewar, Oklahoma, on March 1, 1911, to James H. Ross and Meddie (Harrison) Ross. Elpha married Leon Harold Wilson on June 1, 1926 and later moved to Bakersfield. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Colonial Ward, South Stake. She was very active in the Church serving in the Family History Center and as a Stake Missionary. Elpha retired from the Kern County Department of Human Services. She was very skillful in gardening and growing African violets, knitting, crocheting, tatting, needlepoint and quilting. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Elpha's legacy of devotion to her church family and friends will always be remembered.
Elpha is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wilson, infant daughter, Mona Fay, parents, two sisters, two grandsons and two great grandsons. She is survived by a brother, Bardean and wife, Alpha; sisters, Aileen and husband, A. G. Ross and Shirley and husband, Henry Farmer; Elpha's children and spouses are Harold and Uneta Wilson, Bernece and Ray Morgan, Wanda Bishop and deceased husband, Tom, Jim and Sue Wilson, Patt and Trenton Spears, Lee Wilson and Debbie Turner, Jerry and Pam Wilson; 24 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Casketbearers will be grandsons, Al Wilson, Jason Wilson, Shannon Wilson, Tommy Bishop, Terry Bishop, and Chuch Bishop. Honorary casketbearers will be Steve Morgan, Dennis Spears, Lee Wilson, Jr., Dean Bishop and Bobby Wilson.
