Donald Dee Wilson

Donald Dee Wilson
November 5, 1931 ~ January 4, 2012 (age 80)

Wilson, Donald Dee, 80, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Noble Health Care Center in Noble due to complications from Parkinson's Disease, several strokes and an infection.  Don was born in Oklahoma City Nov. 5, 1931 to Donnie Dee Wilson and Nan Attaway Wilson.  He lived in Norman all of his life.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a BA Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  While at OU, he was in the Air Force ROTC Program and upon graduation was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.  He served his country for several years and remained in the Reserves until his honorable discharge.

Don was employed by Black, Sivalls and Bryson, an oilfield supply company in Oklahoma City and worked there for a few years.

In 1957, he met his wife-to-be, Merilyn Ann Rudkin, and married her in the First Christian Church in Norman Jan. 15, 1960.

In 1962, he was hired at Tinker Air Force Base as an engineer in airplane maintenance and worked there until his retirement in Dec. 1987.

Don was a member of the First Christian Church in Norman, a member of the Study and Share Sunday School Class and a member of CMF-Christian Mens Fellowship.  He was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, coached Little League Baseball for the City of Norman Parks and Recreation for about 10 years, worked for the Optimist Club's wrestling program, served as PTA president at John Adams Elementary and was involved with Cub Scout Troop 219 there.

He always put family first.  A very loyal and devoted son to his parents, a very wonderful dad to his sons and a very loving husband to his wife.  He enjoyed eating good food, fishing, hunting, camping, OU football and wrestling and working on wrecked cars.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors are his wife, Merilyn, of the home; two sons, Brian and his wife Jamie of Norman, Todd of Bellevue, NE; four grandsons, Robbie and his wife, Christi, of Cincinnati, OH, Chandler of Dayton, OH, Kyle of Norman and Nicholas of Norman; one granddaughter, Ashley of Norman and one great granddaughter, Sydney of Cincinnati; a brother-in-law, David Rudkin and his wife, Rose of OKC; and nephews, David II and Mark.  Also, a very good friend and mentor, Gene Blair.  

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster in Norman.  

Arrangements for Don and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
