George Willis, age 78, of Newcastle passed away on May 22, 2023. George Clinton Willis was born on August 25, 1944 in Abilene, Texas, the youngest of 4 children born to Fletcher Lewis Willis and Lois Owen (Anderson) Willis. He was primarily raised in Abilene, where he attended school and graduated with the Eagle Class of 1962.
Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant, while serving his country proudly and selflessly. George then decided to further his education. He attended McMurry University and graduated in 1975, earning a B.B.A in Accounting. He spent the majority of his career as a Federal Civil Service employee, where he eventually retired in 2004.
George spent the last few years of his life living in Newcastle, Oklahoma, where he had built a home that he truly loved. He was a simple man, who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved to watch old classic movies, and he quoted most of the movie, while telling you all about the actors. In addition to the classics, he was big sports fan. He liked to watch any and all sports, but he especially liked to follow Abilene High sports. George valued his faith and his relationship with the Lord. He was a lifelong member of Grace Methodist Church, and he truly adored his church family and friends. More than anything, George was a family man. He loved spending time with his family, and cherished the countless memories they shared. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Fletcher and Lois Willis; sister, Martha Mielke and husband Florren; brother, Owen Willis and wife Claudia; brother-in-law, Fred Mason; niece, Sharon Himali; niece-in-law, Lea Anne Dean; nephew, David Mason and great-niece, Whitney Willis.
George is survived by: his sister, Sandra Mason of North Richland Hills, TX; nephews, Neil (Jolene) Willis of Purcell, Stephen (Colleen) Mielke of Austin, TX; Larry (Tammy) Mason of North Richland Hills, TX; nephew-in-law, Nripendra Himali of Fort Worth, TX; niece-in-law, Claudia Mason of McKinney, TX, several great nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Private family services will be held at a future date at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Abilene.
