Ernest L. "Chick" Williamson

Ernest L. "Chick" Williamson of Tchefuncta Estates, Covington, LA, died on Monday, March 31, 2003.

Beloved husband of Gertrude Watkins "Trudy" Williamson. Father of Mary Nan W. Hamilton of Cincinnati, Ohio; Judith W. Blaising of Dallas, Tx.; Richard D. Williamson of New Orleans, LA and David E. Williamson of Tampa, FL. Brother of Mittie Byrne of Lubbock, TX. Son of the late Ernest and Mabel Donnell Williamson. Also survived by two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Age 78 years, a native of Perryton, Texas and a resident of Covington, LA, for the past 40 years.

Mr. Williamson was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-1946 as a staff sergeant.

He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1950.

Mr. Williamson was employed by various companies from 1954 to 1989; Hughes Tool Co., Phillips Petroleum Co., The Louisiana Land and Exploration Co. In 1985 he became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, of Louisiana Land and Exploration Company.

He also served as a member of the Louisiana Land and Exploration Company's Board of Directors from 1971-1995. Mr. Williamson had a professional relationship and memberships with American Petroleum Institute as Director, Executive Committee and Management Committee, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Director and Area Vice-President, Elected Chief Roughneck, IPAA Convention 1987, American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Received their 1979 Award for Distinguished Service, Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association (National Organization) Past Chairman, Louisiana Division of Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Assoc., Natural Gas Supply Association, Past Chairman, All American Wildcatters Club, Junior Achievement of New Orleans, Past Chairman, Salvation Army of New Orleans and River Region, Past Chairman, New Orleans Business Task Force on Education, Past Vice-Chairman, National Association of Manufacturers, Board of Director, Tulane Hospital and Medical School, Board of Governors, Children's Hospital in New Orleans, Board of Directors, Honoree at Sugar Plum Ball, Annual Benefit function for Children's Hospital, Received the New Orleans Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1987 Distinguished Citizens Award. Member of the New Orleans Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame, Tulane University President Council, Loyola University Presidents Council, University of New Orlean's Council for Life Long Learning, University of Oklahoma College of Engineering, Board of Engineering and Distinguished Graduates Society, Inducted May, 1987, Chamber of Commerce, New Orleans and the River Region, Director, New Orleans Business Council, New Orleans World Trade Center, Director, National Petroleum Council, Member.

Mr. Williamson was on the Boards of Directors of The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company, New Orleans, LA, from 1971-1995, The Halliburton Company, Dallas, Texas, from 1981-1997. The Hibernia National Bank, New Orleans, LA, from 1976-1996 and Central Louisiana Electric Company, Pineville, LA, from 1989-1997 of directors of each of the above company's he was retired. Existing corporate board of directors, Nova Technology Corporation, Lafayette, LA. 1997-2003. His social club involvement was Las Campanas Club, Santa Fe, N.M., Metairie Country Club, New Orleans, LA, and Tchefuncta Country Club, Covington, LA. His hobbies and interests included golf, fishing, sailing, hunting and traveling.
