Janet Wayne Williams (Bayne) passed away at her home on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the age of 71. Jan was born on May 5, 1945 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, graduated from Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, and received a Masters degree in Education from Oklahoma State University. Jan also received Montessori training and enjoyed teaching in Montessori schools in Kansas City, Dallas, and Colorado.
Jan returned to Oklahoma to teach in Ponca City public schools, at Roosevelt Elementary and Ponca City High School. She taught English to special education students and helped numerous students achieve their educational and personal goals. Teaching was her passion and it made her the happiest to share that passion with students of all ages and abilities.
Jan was an avid reader and known to work miracles in her garden, where you could probably find her on any given day. She made beautiful stained glass windows, and also loved frequenting and hosting yard sales. Jan was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the New Beginning Sunday School class, and was also an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Ponca City FN Chapter.
Jan is survived by her mother, Norma McFadden Bayne of Ponca City; her son, Jeffrey Kirk Williams of Broken Arrow, OK; her daughter, Karin Pauline Williams of West Hollywood, CA; and her grandson, Andrew Williams Impomeni, of Allendale, NJ. She also leaves behind her aunts Pauline Kirkpatrick of Wichita, KS and Marjorie McFadden of West Columbia, TX, and many cousins whom she considered friends; her fellow teacher and close friend, Diane Pendleton of Ponca City; and her adoring cats, KP and BJ.
Because Jan loved to share gardening stories and plants with other gardeners, the family would like to offer plants from her garden to anyone who would like to have them. Please contact Diane Pendleton at 580-763-3486 to schedule a "dig & share" and for information about the memorial service for Jan.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family will be accepting donations for the Janet Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund for special education students at Ponca City High School who want to continue their educations. For details, please send an email to karinwilliams8@gmail.com
