Jerry D. Williams was born on July 21, 1932 in Longdale, Oklahoma to Earl and Virgil (Benson) Williams. He departed this life on Saturday, September 14, 2019 in Fairview, Oklahoma at the age of 87.
As a young boy, Jerry was baptized in the North Canadian River. He attended Canton school up to the 12th grade before going to work at U.S. Gypsum where he worked for 45 years before retiring in 1995.
In 1949, Jerry met the love of his life, Von Womack Williams. They were united in marriage on June 23, 1950 in Drummond, Oklahoma and made their home in the Canton area. They were blessed with three children, Nancy Cully, Wade Williams and Becky Garriott.
When he wasn't working, Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping at the lake. The Canton Lake was a very big part of his life. Not only did he help clear trees for the construction of the lake, but he also won the largest Walleye at the first Walleye Rodeo in 1967. Jerry loved playing and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Earlene Howe and Martha "Tudy" Sexton; and one daughter, Nancy Cully. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Von; son Wade Williams and wife Becky; daughter, Becky Garriott and husband Myron, all of Canton, OK; son-in-law, John Cully and wife Susie of Gage, OK; brother, Bill Williams and wife of Wellston, OK; grandchildren, Karla Killman and husband Dean, Jordan Blackburn and husband Evan, Evin Swartwood and husband Matt, Brennan Garriott, Austin Williams and Vince Maldonado, Ethan Williams and wife Brittany, Carly Williams and Zach Stephens; great-grandchildren, Dalton Killman and wife Nicole, Bailey Killman, Luke, Bella, Evie and Mason Swartwood, Cale and Eleanor Stephens, and Sophia Williams.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Canton Christian Church with the funeral home acting as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
