Glenn Benson Williams II

Mar. 25, 1955 ~ Dec. 7, 2010

STILLWATER, Okla. — Glenn Benson Williams II was born on Mar. 25, 1955 in Cushing to Glenn and Alice (Stiles) Williams. He was called home by his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 7, 2010 after a year-long battle with cancer. Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at 10:00 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Cushing, Okla.

Glenn, or Ben as he was called by his family and childhood friends, was raised on the family farm northeast of Ripley. He attended Ripley schools from first through eleventh grade. During high school he was active in FFA and earned state honors on the Entomology Team. In the fall of 1972, he transferred to Cushing High School where he graduated with the Class of 1973.

While attending Cushing High School, Glenn was involved in the VICA program. He attended classes in the morning and worked in the afternoon for his uncle, Dale Williams, at Williams Monuments. After graduating he became a part of a group of friends referred to as "the crew". It was through these friendships that he met Sue Sawatzky, who would become his wife two years later on June 11, 1977.

In 1976, at the age of 20, he purchased the family business from Dale. Over the next 34 years, he continued expanding the business and honing his expertise in the industry. He was a respected member of Mid America Monument Builders Association (MAMBA) where he served as trustee and taught various classes on technique for the industry.

Glenn and Sue had two children, Dustin Gene and Tiffany Gayle. Glenn enjoyed supporting his children in all their activities from wrestling to dance. He was very proud of their academic accomplishments and beamed with pride as they both graduated from college. He was overjoyed with the birth of his first grandchild, Xander Brian. An avid gun collector, Glenn smiled ear to ear as he presented Xander with his first gun just a few weeks ago.

In addition to collecting guns, Glenn enjoyed hunting and target shooting. He made several trips to Colorado to camp with friends and hunt elk. He also enjoyed hunting game birds, waterfowl and prairie dogs. He and a group of friends went on a pheasant hunt only a few weeks ago. Another of Glenn's hobbies was owning and restoring classic Corvettes.

As a child, Glenn attended the Big Creek Church of the Brethren. He accepted Christ as his Savior at their church camp. Later, he became a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Cushing, serving as Church Clerk for over 20 years. Early 2010 brought serious changes to Glenn's life which caused him to return to his roots in the Brethen Church, where he enjoyed worshiping and renewing old friendships. His faith and love for the Lord gave him the ability to witness to others. He faced death without fear because he knew Jesus was preparing his mansion in Heaven.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sue; son, Dustin and his wife, Brandi; daughter, Tiffany; grandson, Xander; sister, Kay Houk and husband, Jack of Jenks; great aunt, Morene Williams; mother-in-law, Lula Mae Sawatzky; brother-in-law, Pete Sawatzky and wife, Kathy of Stroud; sister-in-law, Jackie Zinkan and husband, Don of Hurst, Texas Mid America; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Alice; father-in-law, Pete Sawatzky; and brother-in-law, Jim Sawatzky.
