Eddie Lynn Williams

Eddie Lynn Williams
February 2, 1944 ~ January 23, 2013

Eddie Lynn Williams, former Superintendent and educator, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in the St. Francis Medical Center, Tulsa, OK at the age of 68 years. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, OK. Eddie wished that no funeral services be held, but his family will be greeting friends at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Friends are invited to come and share their favorite story about Eddie with the family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Eddie's name to the Cushing Athletic Department at 1700 E. Walnut. The son of Herbert L. Williams and Ora F. (Ponder) Williams, Eddie was born on February 2, 1944 in Sapulpa, OK. His family lived in Picket Prairie, OK until he was 10 years old when they moved to Keystone, OK. Eddie graduated from Mannford High School with the class of 1962.

Eddie was united in marriage to Lynn Pace on December 22, 1962 in Keystone, OK. Eddie attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and graduated with a Bachelors in Education in 1965. Eddie began his teaching career at Keystone Elementary where he taught for 4 years before moving to Cushing. He continued teaching at Deep Rock Elementary before becoming the principal at Hillside Elementary. After Hillside, Eddie transferred to Harmony Elementary where he served as principal for 17 years. During this time, Eddie earned his Masters Degree in School Administration from Oklahoma State University. Eddie then served as the Assistant Superintendent until 2003 when he became Superintendent for the Cushing Public School System. Eddie retired from the Cushing School System in 2008 after 39 years of service.

Following retirement, Eddie and Lynn enjoyed traveling the western United States. Their favorite place to visit was the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado where they loved to hike and just be outdoors. When they werent traveling, Eddie could be found at home piddling in his garage. His favorite times at home were when he was surrounded by his children and spending time with his grandchildren.

Everyone that knew Eddie could feel and see his passion that he had for children and youth. Even in retirement, he and Lynn still loved supporting Cushing schools and all of the sporting activities. Many of his former coworkers and staff will never forget how he would begin meetings by sharing some sort of "story" that would leave them laughing for hours. Whether he volunteered the story or was coaxed into one, you never knew how much fact and fiction were blended together. Many times the stories were at the expense of his wife Lynn.

Survivors include his wife Lynn of the home; four children, Perry Williams and his wife Ann Catherine of Weatherford, TX; Sarah Williams and her wife Trish Worster of Blanchard, OK; Karen Williams and her partner Olga Crutcher of Tulsa; and Tyson Williams and his wife Bronda of Oklahoma City; one brother, Frank Williams and his wife Mary Eileen of Bristow; one sister, Loretta Lyman of Bristow; three grandchildren, Jordan Williams of Lubbock, TX, Navy Williams of Oklahoma City, and Rhys Williams of Oklahoma City; and other relatives and friends. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ora Williams.
