B. Wayne "Buster" Williams, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shady Side, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at his residence at Grand Oaks Assisted Living facility in Washington, D.C. Born January 17, 1923, the son of Lonnie A. and Ollie Mae Williams, he grew up and attended schools in the Leon and Rubottom communities of Love County.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and following his service attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas, graduating in 1954. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. During college and seminary he pastored churches in Fairmount, Edom and Terrell, Texas. In 1959 he was called as the pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Colorado Springs where he served until his retirement in 1995.
He and his wife Lois moved to Maryland in 1998 where they spent many happy years of retirement living near the Chesapeake Bay. In 2010 Mr. Williams moved to Washington, D.C. and enjoyed six and a half years at Grand Oaks where he made many wonderful friends. He was in reasonably good health until late this spring and was especially fond of singing hymns and country and western songs, playing his guitar and entertaining his great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family but they take consolation in knowing he spent 70+ years preparing for the day he would meet his Lord and Savior and is now rejoicing in Heaven.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lois Thompson and his brother, Afton Williams.
Survivors include his son, Joe Afton Williams and wife Charlotte of Littleton, Colorado; daughter, Cherrie Wanner Doggett of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Kristine Wanner of McLean, Virginia, Bert (Jodi) Williams of Golden, Colorado and Jennifer (Larry) Jacks of Littleton; six great-grandchildren, Samuel Dale and Benjamin Joe Jacks, James Wesley "JW" and Chloe Harrington, and Reagan Katherine and Reese Lynn Williams; and many nieces and nephews in the Marietta and Oklahoma City area.
This obituary included a photo of Mr. Williams.
