Bertha Marie Williams Visitation for Bertha Marie Williams will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel (3312 Niles Street) on Thursday, September 8, 2005 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
Marie was born September 8, 1907 to homesteading farmers in the Oklahoma Territory. At age 97, she peacefully passed away on August 31, 2005 in Bakersfield, California.
She was the seventh of nine children. On October 3, 1945, she married the late I.E. (Bill) Williams and moved to Bakersfield where they owned and operated Williams Shoe Service at 623 Kentucky Street until his death in 1985.
They both were long-time members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, traveling extensively in California and holding various positions within those organizations at both the local and state levels. Marie was the President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post-Militant for the State of California in 1985.
She was preceded in death by two of her children, James Maurice McMahan of Escondido and Lois McMahan Kelley Worsley of Bakersfield.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Darlene Casey (Harlan) McMahan Ogden Crain of Bakersfield and her only remaining sister, Marge McGee of Hereford, Texas. Other survivors include her 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty McMahan; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
