Bernietta Hazel (Borket) Williams

March 6, 1921 ~ August 11, 2012

Bernietta Hazel (Borket) Williams, 91, died August 11, in Dewey.

Bernietta was born on March 6, 1921, in Council Grove, KS, the daughter of Fred and Alta (Brockelman) Borkert. She was raised on the family farm and educated in a one-room schoolhouse, Morning Star School. Bernietta was united in marriage with Ira "Pete" Williams on April 19, 1943, in Manhattan, KS. Pete enlisted in the Navy and they made their home in San Diego, CA, where their daughter Joyce was born, before moving back to Council Grove. Soon after, they moved to Junction City, KS, where their son Paul was born, and the couple lived there for 50 years before moving to Dewey to be closer to their children.

Bernietta worked for Westside Dairy as a Lab Technician and in quality control. She also worked for the American Red Cross as a secretary. Bernietta attended the Dewey United Methodist Church. She was active in the Eastern Star and the VFW Women's Auxiliary.

Bernietta is survived by her two children: daughter Joyce A Ropp and husband Jerry Ropp of Bartlesville and son Paul L Williams and wife Cynthia A Brainerd-Williams of Bartlesville; two sisters Beulah McPhale and Bernice Fulton, both of Manhattan, KS; and five grandchildren: Ginger Ropp-Kearney and husband Kevin Kearney, Kentucky Ropp, as well as Joshua Williams and wife Jessica, Jeremiah Williams and wife Heather, and JanDell Williams-Rowe and husband Stephen. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Caleb Rowe, Megan Rowe, Loren Williams, Lindsey Williams, Katherine Williams, Alex Williams, Abigail Williams and Casey Kearney. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, and her parents.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions in her memory be made to Dewey United Methodist Church, 618 N. Delaware, Dewey OK 74029; or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey. Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Dewey United Methodist Church. Rev. Rick Robart with the Dewey United Methodist Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Family Funeral Home.
