Neva Fern Sternberger was born October 28, 1922, in Woods County, Oklahoma, to Henry and Edith Campbell Sternberger, the sixth of six children. She graduated from Hardtner High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to David A. Wilhite on October 19, 1941, in Hutchinson, Kansas. To that union four daughters were born: Janet (Gerald) Elwood (of Kiowa, Kansas), Joyce Snow (of Andrews, Texas), Jean (Ivan) Rose (of Alva), and Jill (Kenny) Daughhetee (of Kiowa, Kansas).
Her ten grandchildren include: Kelli (Craig) Killman (of Alva), Chris (Martene) Elwood (of Oxford, Michigan), Jennifer (Benjy) Hada (of Andrews, Texas), Jaymee (Rene) Medrano (of Andrews, Texas), Audra Rose (of Austin, Texas), Annalisa Rose (of Alva, Oklahoma), Jason Rose (of Lawton, Oklahoma), Kenny Daughhetee (of Kremlin, Oklahoma), David Daughhetee (of Wichita, Kansas) and Jessica Daughhetee (of Wichita, Kansas); and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; infant son, Robert A; two brothers, Glenn and Wayne Sternberger; three sisters, Naurine Spencer, Marguerite Yochum and Hazel Pfleider; and former son-in-law, Terry Snow.
Services will be held at the Kiowa Methodist Church on Monday, October 28, 2019, at 2 p.m. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Hardtner–Elwood Cemetery. Viewing will be at the church at 11:30 until service time. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home of Kiowa. Remembrances may be shared with the family at http://www.lanmanmemorials.com.
