A viewing and visitation will be held for Elwin Eugene Wiley 86, resident of Bakersfield, CA, on Thursday, October 18, 2007, between 2~6 p.m., with meditation/wake between 6~7 p.m., in the chapel of Beloved Care, 115 18th St., Bakersfield, CA.
Elwin Wiley entered into rest on October 10, 2007 and was born on May 8, 1921, in Anadarko, OK.
In 1943 he moved his family to Bakersfield, CA.
Mr. Wiley was a real black role model for the community of Bakersfield.
He was the founder of San Jose Soul Riders, a black horse riding group still active today in the Bay area. Mr. Wiley made honorary Grand Marshall for the Bill Pickett Rodeo of Bakersfield, in July of 2007.
He was blessed with many talents, he learned to finger paint years ago from a German painter who saw he held a great gift of painting. He painted several murals for churches in Bakersfield and surrounding areas. He also painted Holiday greetings for local churches and businesses throughout the community. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Opel Wiley; daughter, Earlena Breaux, and two grandsons, Jerome Coston and Marvin E. Collins.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Alvin E. Wiley of Bakersfield, CA, Robert Bruce Wiley, wife, Milvina of Atascadero, CA; daughter, Maretta Collins of Bakersfield, CA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special friend, Rella Hunt and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 19th, at 10:00 a.m., at the Higher Ground Ministries, 912 N. New Stine Rd., Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Ron Robertson officiating with interment to follow in Union Cemetery.
