Memorial services for Gary Don Wilcox, 63, of Ada will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Wes Evans and Harry Turner will officiate. A reception will follow at Oak Hills Golf and Country Club.
Gary passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the age of 63.
Gary was born to parents James (Jim) Ellis Wilcox and Joyce Stokes Wilcox, both of Ada. Gary was a 1971 graduate of Ada High School. He attended Oklahoma State University for three years on a golf scholarship returning to Ada and receiving his degree in Business Administration from East Central University.
Immediately upon graduating from college he followed in his father and uncle, Terry Wilcox's footsteps and became an Assistant Golf Professional at Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. His first Head Golf Professional position was at the prestigious Country Club of Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
He then served as the Director of Golf at the new Westin LaPaloma Country Club in Tucson, Arizona where he was honored as National Merchandiser of the Year by the Professional Golfers Association of America.
His first General Manager position was working for the PGA TOUR at The TPC @ Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Florida. He then moved on to become the General Manager at Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Resorts of Naples in Naples, Florida where he opened the new facility and was responsible for its successful operation for thirteen years.
Gary also served as a Director for the Golf Digest Instructional School. He was a member of the Club Manager's Association of America and had been a member of the PGA of America for 38 years.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jan Evans Wilcox and mother Joyce Wilcox, both of Ada, Oklahoma; son Ryan Wilcox of Palm Desert, California and Heather Wilcox of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
