In Memory of Army .... SP4 John Edward Wilburn
*** Specialist, Fourth Class Wilburn was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On April 19, 1968, he was a passenger in a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1D) participating in a combat assault mission into A Shau Valley, South Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire causing the helicopter to spin throwing Specialist, Fourth Class Wilburn out the left door from an altitude of 3,000 feet. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
