Robert D. Wichert, age 81 of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away October 9, 2024 in Fairview, Oklahoma. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Dan and Elma (Mitchell) Wichert on April 18,1943. He graduated from Enid High School, where he was involved in woodworking and Bible Academics Club. Shortly thereafter Robert married Gracie McFarland in Perry, Oklahoma on November 26, 1963. They were married for almost 61 years.
He started his building career working for several different contractors before stepping out on his own as Bob Wichert Home Builders. Our dad could fix anything and everything. If there wasn’t a tool to fix what was broken, he invented one. In 1986 dad and mom moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas to seek a new opportunity. One of Dad’s first jobs there was building the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel that has just recently been named “The most beautiful place in Arkansas.” A few years later, with his master carpentry skills, dad became The Sam Walton family’s handyman doing many major remodels and furniture restoration. Dad also enjoyed the great outdoors with hunting, fishing, and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie; children, Gayla Nelson (Jon), Pamela Paine (Mike), David Wichert (Lisa), and Doug Wichert; grandchildren, Jillian Ybos (Warren), Rachel Donovan (Kevin), Sean Nelson (Alanah), Tyler Paine, Austin Wichert (Presley), Logan Wichert (Chassteen); great grandchildren; Caroline, Camille, Preston, Thea, Connor, Jon Todd, and Caleb and Tatum; brothers; Johnnie Wichert (Darlene) and Glen Wichert (Glenna); many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
