Raymond Wayne "Buster" Whiting

Raymond Wayne "Buster" Whiting
May 6, 1938 ~ September 30, 2019

Raymond Wayne Whiting (Ray), also known as "Buster", was born May 6, 1938 in Bessie, OK. In 1945, he was adopted by Ross and Clodell Whiting. Ray spent his childhood working and playing on the farm just outside Newkirk.

In 1957, he joined the U.S. Army and came to be based at Fort Eustis, VA. He was honorably discharged in 1960 at the rank of Corporal. He would later explain to his children that during his time in the Army, he was just like “Radar” from the television show MASH.

After attending business school, Ray went to work at Conoco in Ponca City, OK, where he worked in the computer department until retiring in 1991 as a Systems Analyst. In his younger years, Ray enjoyed coaching his children’s softball and baseball teams, and spent many hours driving his daughters’ cheer squads to and from camp and competitions in his van decorated with streamers and shoe polish. Ray was a huge sports fan, and particularly loved the OU Sooners. He always enjoyed fishing, golf, playing cards with friends and going to the Elks Lodge for a good dinner and fun evening with his wife of 22 years, Terri Whiting.

Ray is survived by his wife, Terri; son, Dennis (Carol) Whiting of Bartlesville; Daughter, Sharolyn (Mike) Whiting-Ralston of Tulsa, OK; son, Jason (Shelly) Whiting of Piedmont, OK; Ashley (Matt) Boyers of Frisco, TX; daughter-in-law, Edie Whiting of Collinsville, OK; Stepdaughter, Julie Fleming of Ponca City; stepdaughter, Krista Henning of Ponca City; sister, Debbie (Amon) Castleberry; grandchildren Stephen Whiting (Tess), Michelle Whiting, Lyndie Whiting, Haley Whiting, Hunter Whiting, Justin Whiting, Colby Whiting, Savannah Whiting, Evan Boyers, Dalton Henning, Bryce (Shaelyn) Fleming and Steven Fleming; and great grandchildren Brandon Kidd, Damien Fleming, Trent Fleming, Waylon Fleming and Grant Fleming. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Whiting, father, Ross Whiting, mother, Clodell Whiting and Esther Knight.

The family welcomes family and friends to join them at a celebration of life open house on October 21, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Trout Funeral Home with military honors at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Ponca City or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
