Richard E. Whitfield of Durant passed from this life on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 77. He was born on June 4, 1945 in Durant, Oklahoma to Otis Wingo Whitfield and Kizzie Whitfield.
Richard served our country in the National Guard, and he worked as a mechanic before retirement. He enjoyed fixing things. Richard liked spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was also known for his sense of humor and running his mouth. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters Tammy Cota and husband Juan Diego of Azle, Texas and Tina Valdez of Wichita Falls, Texas, his son Richard Whitfield of Calera, Oklahoma, and daughter-in-law Shannon Minchey of Calera, Oklahoma. His legacy lives on with his grandchildren Daniel Whitfield and wife Deanna of Wichita Falls, Texas, Yesenia Ashton and husband RJ of Azle, Texas, Monica Rey of Azle, Texas, Marissa Lozano and David Carillo of Azle, Texas, Liliana Lozano of Azle, Texas, Jose-Luis Lozano of Azle, Texas, Juan Valdez of Wichita Falls, Texas, Marco Celis of Wichita Falls, Texas, Leticia Celis of Wichita Falls, Texas, Maria Galvan of Wichita Falls, Texas, Brayden Whitfield of Calera, Oklahoma, Preston Whitfield of Calera, Oklahoma, Alexandra Whitfield of Wichita Falls, Texas and numerous great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents Otis and Kizzie Whitfield, siblings JB Whitfield, Larry Whitfield, and Brenda Guymon, grandson Riley Minchey, and great-granddaughter Maliyah Massey.
Family hour of visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant. His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel. Richard’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
