Lyle Lee Whiteman, 71, passed from this earth into the arms of Jesus on March 2, 2018 at The Journey Home, Bartlesville, OK. He was born on January 1, 1947 in Winfield, Kansas, the oldest child of Raymond Leroy and Iva May (Weeks) Whiteman. His birth made the front-page news in the Winfield Courier because he was the first baby of the New Year. He graduated from Atlanta (Kansas) High School in 1965. He went on to graduate from Friends Bible College with his bachelor's degree in 1969. His other major accomplishment in 1969 was his marriage to Peggy Lou Aufrance in Alliance, OH on August 23. He also graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1972. They faithfully served in the Friends Church for 47 years which included pastorates in Springdale, KS; Springfield, CO; Beaver-Shannon, KS; La Junta, CO; Ramona, OK; and Gate, OK. During his years as pastor he performed 31 weddings and 90 funerals.
Lyle lived out what he preached and was a faithful servant of God. He always had a smile on his face and was well liked by everyone. His encouraging words were helpful to others. Lyle enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, golf, and reading. But the true joy of his later years was his grandchildren. He always took time to share a joke or get down on the floor and play with them. It was his second childhood and they will all miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Lanier. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; 3 sons: Danny (Raylea) of Tulsa, OK, Jeff (Lisa) of Skiatook, OK, and Mark (Nancy) of Hutchinson, KS; 9 grandchildren: Carissa, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Raymond, Austin, Nicholas, Micah, Lukas, and Brody; 2 brothers: Daryl (Trish) and Ralph (Teresa); and a sister, Cora (Marty) Condon; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
The family would like to thank The Journey Home, Comforting Hands Hospice, and Jane Phillips Medical Center Staff for the compassionate care he received in the last week of his life.
Memorials in memory of Lyle may be made to Camp Quaker Haven, Barclay College, or Evangelical Friends Mission.
