Melody Beth White, 51 years, 11 months, 4 days old. She passed away at a local hospital on April 15, 2014 with her family at her side.
A celebration of her life will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Pastor Alan Christian officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
Melody was born in Hamilton, Ohio to Harold and Helen [Underwood] Blevins on May 11, 1962.
Melody moved to Lawton with her family on July 4, 1972. She attended Sullivan Village Elementary as well as Carriage Hills before going to MacArthur Junior High. She graduated from MacArthur High School in 1980 and always carried the motto, "Once a Highlander, always as Highlander" in her heart at all times.
She worked numerous jobs but working at Dillards as the Cosmetic Manager meant the most to her before becoming a mom to her first born, Wayne.
She was always, "Mama Mel" to anyone who needed a shoulder to cry on or a hot meal to eat. She cared for anyone that cared for her, and loved unconditionally.
Singing was her passion; whether singing someone home to singing at community functions she always made sure to touch someone with her powerhouse voice. She was the Karaoke Queen of Lawton, Oklahoma. She made her hometown proud when she made it all the way to Hollywood to compete on the TV Show, Karaoke Battle U.S.A. and was told she was one of the best in the nation.
Melody's definition of fun was going to MacArthur football games, enjoying nature and "sun bathing". But more than anything she loved her family and being Grandma Mel-Mel to her only grandchild, Gabriella.
Her faith always came before anything else and although she did a lot of her karaoke in the bar she made sure to still get her story across and lead people to Christ. She will be remembered by having an infectious personality and smile, for being vivacious, the life of the party, and a mom to anyone who needed a mom. She touched many lives and will be missed by all.
Survivors include her boyfriend of the home, Ed James. Son, Wayne White and wife Erica of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Melissa Gomez and husband Roberto of Lawton; granddaughter, Gabriella Gomez of Lawton; brother-in-law, Rick Halbrooks of Wichita, KS; niece, Misty Allen and husband Bill of Junction City, KS; great-nephews, Dalton and Dallas Allen of Junction City, KS; aunt, Orlean Blevins-Sawyer of Cincinnati, OH and many other aunts and uncles in Ohio; "adopted sister" Rita Nobles of Lawton "adopted sons", Bobby Wetzel of Lawton and Paul Spradlin of Midwest City; "Papa Bear", Fernando Ortega of Lawton; and "adopted daughter" April Casteel of Lawton. As well as many other extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen Blevins; sisters, Reba Halbrooks and Helen "Curly" Tribbey; brother, Charles Buckner Jr. and many other family members near and far.
