Emily (Thompson) White

Emily (Thompson) White
October 5, 1935 ~ December 25, 2019 (age 84)

Emily Thompson White passed on December 25, 2019, surrounded by her family at her home in Norman, Oklahoma. Emily was born in Ryan, Oklahoma on October 5, 1935, to Jesse and Cleo Thompson. Her early years were spent in Ryan before moving to Chickasha, where she graduated from Chickasha High School in 1953.

Emily attended the University of Oklahoma, attaining a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. She taught Junior High music and directed the chorus in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In later years, Emily returned to OU, and received a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. She was a pharmacist and College of Pharmacy School Advisor for many years before retiring in 1987.

In the summer of 1959, while sponsoring a group of High School students at a conference at the University of Oklahoma, Emily met David White. They fell in love immediately, and were married in November of that same year.

Emily and David shared an extraordinary life together in Norman for almost 60 years, until David’s passing in July of 2018. Emily and David had a very unique and intense love for each other that was evident.

Emily enjoyed spending time playing the piano, gardening, quilting, singing in church, reading and cooking wonderful new creations for her family. Most of all, she enjoyed laughing with and enjoying precious time with her loved ones.

Emily’s children and grandchildren came to visit Emily and David every year, for holidays and long visits in the summer. They all eagerly anticipated these happy times. Summer visits were spent playing games, grilling out, and having fun in the family swimming pool, surrounded by all the beautiful flowers that Emily planted each year.

Emily is survived by her daughters, her sons-in-law, her grandchildren and many close friends that she held dear to her heart. Her inner light and remarkable strength will forever live in the memories of all that knew and loved her. The life she lived with such genuine love, kindness and sincerity is an example for all to live by.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma.
