Roy Clayburn Wheeler, 85, of Blanchard, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Norman. The son of Willie Washington and Eola Bernice (Roberts) Wheeler, he was born June 23, 1929 in Blair, Oklahoma.
Roy met the love of his life, Jeannene Corder, on the steps of the church and they were married on November 4, 1950 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Roy served in the US Army with the 114th Field Artillery Division during the Korean Conflict.
Roy taught biology and science and was a part-time principal and coach for Blanchard Public Schools for many years. He then went on to teach in Dibble Public Schools before retiring in 1986, after 29 years of service.
Roy was a member of Crossroads to Life Baptist Church in Blanchard. During his life, Roy actively served as a deacon at three different churches. After his retirement, he took part in two UBA mission trips to Montana to build churches.
Roy was an avid reader and often read 6-7 books per week. He was a former member of the Lion’s Club and spent countless hours playing dominoes at the Blanchard Senior Citizen Center. Roy led by example and his first priority was serving his Lord. He loved his family and he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, W.W. Wheeler and Lloyd Wheeler.
Roy is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Jeannene Wheeler of Blanchard; one daughter, Danette Wheeler of Blanchard; two sons, Danny R. Wheeler and his wife, Lisa, of Norman, and Robert L. Wheeler and his wife, Kip, of Shawnee; two granddaughters, Megan D. Wheeler of Norman, and Michele Windham of Blanchard; one great grandson, Jaquari J. Smith of Blanchard; two sisters, Nita Hinton and husband, Carl, of Medford, Oregon, and Beth Burke and husband, Steve, of Redding, California; and many other loved ones and friends.
Memorial service will held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
