Patricia "Patsy" D. Weston, 80, of Ottumwa, IA passed away February 13, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born July 28, 1937 in Blackwell, OK to her wonderful parents, William Fredrick and Opal McGowan Brewer and grew up in Pawhuska, OK.
In 1956, Pat married Enoch "Andy" A. Weston Jr. and soon after started a family. In 1963 the family relocated from Pawhuska to Crawfordsville, IA and in 1964 the family moved to Ottumwa where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives.
In addition to being a stay at home mom and raising 3 children, Pat spent many, many hours volunteering with Indian Hills Community College, Sunnyslope Care Center and Good Samaritan Care Center. She later taught GED classes through Indian Hills Community College tutoring many to earn their GED degrees. In addition, she also tutored Laotian families sponsored by the Catholic churches, teaching them English.
Pat was always the mom who was the homeroom mom and involved in PTA. As a talented pianist, she accompanied many band or orchestra students for "Solo Day". She was a musical student for most of her life, playing piano at her church and her school choir in Oklahoma.
Both Pat and Andy kept their Oklahoma roots close to their hearts and their Oklahoma hospitality and manners. In her Grandma years, Pat rarely missed a sporting events or the dance recitals of her grandchildren. Grandma instilled the love of reading to her grandkids. Upon retirement, Pat took up the hobby of genealogy and worked countless hours searching for the history of her family creating many records for her family to enjoy and continue on.
Pat is survived by 3 children, Mike (Kimberly) Weston of Ottumwa, IA, Stacy (John) Utter of Bloomfield, IA and Lori (Steve) McDonnell of Virginia Beach, VA; 9 grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Parmenter, Heidi (Adam) Moore, Amanda (Carl) Casey, Ryan (Nichole) Weston, Clint Utter, Kelsey Utter, Kaitlin McDonnell, Christopher McDonnell and Megan McDonnell; 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Cade Parmenter and Eliza Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fredrick and Opal McGowan Brewer; her husband, Enoch Anderson Weston Jr.; a grandson, Tyler Joseph Weston and an infant brother
A lifelong learner, she ironically lived the last 10 years of her life in the grips of dementia. The family wishes to thank Good Samarian Society-Ottumwa for their 7 years of wonderful care for Mom.
Private family graveside services and burial will be held at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
