On Monday, February 4, 2019, Sophia Rebecca West, loving mother, sister, grandma, great grandma and friend passed away at age 73 in Lawton Oklahoma.
Sophia was born May 16, 1945 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from St. Mary's High School, Colorado Springs in May of 1963.
Sophia was a strong independent woman who raised three girls, Leah, Sofia and Margaret. She was known for her fiery spirit, strong faith and unbreakable determination. Sophia loved crocheting blankets for her grandbabies and great grandbabies, doing crossword puzzles and taking care of her many plants. She could be found drinking a beer, smoking a cigarette and telling you what's what at any given time.
Sophia is preceded in death by her mother Helen Valdez; father Joe Valdez Sr. and grandson Matthew Grimes. She is survived by her sister Margaret Knuntson; brother Joe Valdez Jr. and wife Melinda; three daughters, Leah Hunter and husband Jeff, Sofia Deacon and Margaret Grimes; her six grandchildren, Becky, Chris, Anthony, Sarah, Leah and Zachary; eleven great grandchildren, Josh, Dillon, Angel, AJ, Connor, Nathan, Andrew, Ford, Jonah, Lukas and Luke along with many nieces and nephews and close friends, Ben Grimes and Aaron and Gianna Deutsch.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel, 6210 NW Cache Rd, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you send a donation to her favorite charity St. Jude's.
