Beatrice M. (Wycoff) Wenger (Bea) died on July 7, 2020 in her home in Warr Acres, Oklahoma with her husband of 62 years, Rev. Fred G. Wenger, and her daughter, Karen, by her side. With Beth and Karen’s help, they were able to bring her home the last few days. Fred III has been a source of strength and counsel for all of them.
Bea was the daughter of Rev. Floyd A. Wycoff and Mary Bumgardner Wycoff and was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on August 9, 1934. She grew up in parsonages in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. She accepted the Lord at a young age and served the Lord her whole life with her gentle, kind, and loving spirit that impacted many. She was known for her beautiful smile and was a gracious hostess. Bea and Fred invited many struggling ones into their home for a month, and sometimes a year. She was an excellent listener.
In 1957 she graduated from Eastern Nazarene College and was elected to Who’s Who. August 9, 1958, she married Fred Wenger in Shadyside, Ohio. She taught public school in Ohio. She taught in Kansas, while Fred attended Seminary. She then became a full time mother and ministered beside her husband in Kansas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Hawaii. She was director of Visiting Shut-ins in Parsons, Kansas, and was Director of the Share Program and First Time Visitors Program in Bethany. She also managed a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her children are carrying on her Christian legacy.
Bea and Fred were awarded the Lifetime Service Award from the Church of the Nazarene and were honored as the Alumni of the Year at Eastern Nazarene College in 2008. Her loving husband cared for her at home until 2019 when her health deteriorated. Bea had Dementia, and in the past several months an aggressive cancer. She loved children, flowers and music. Each year she would send a 1000 or more cards for birthdays/anniversaries and other occasions. Even when she could no longer communicate, she still remembered the words to hymns. Now in heaven she is free of her confusion and pain! When they faced a crisis in ministry, God gave her Hebrews 6:10: "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you helped his people and continue to help them. Just keep on loving!"
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Floyd A. Wycoff and Mary Bumgardner Wycoff. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Beth (Lavern) Bley of Calumet, Oklahoma, Karen (Rev. Tim) Thomas of Morehead, Kentucky and Fred Wenger III (Gina) of Salem, Oregon; five grandchildren, Shaun (Brittany) Bley of Edmond, Oklahoma, Caleb Bley (Bobbi Lampkin) of Calumet, Oklahoma, Andrea Thomas of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Keith Thomas of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Cameron Wenger of Salem, Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kodyn, Kileigh, Canyon, and Madi; brother, Rev. Richard (Alice) Wycoff of Anna, Texas; sister, Helen Shunko of Pena Blanca, New Mexico and a host of nieces and nephews. Many friends called her "Mother" or "Grandma."
Viewing will be Monday, July 13, 9am-9pm with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 14, 10:00 a.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel.
