Lucille (Benson) Welschmeyer

January 7, 1921 ~ 2006?

Lucille Benson Welschmeyer was born January 7, 1921 in Canadian, Oklahoma, the second child of the union of John and Leona Benson. With family members nearby, she passed on December 30, 2005 in Bakersfield.

Lucille was a sixty plus year resident of Kern County, having moved from Oklahoma in 1942.

She was well cared for by staff of Parkview Emanuel Convalescent Home the last six years of her life.

Lucille was faithful to the Pentecostal Holiness Church of her childhood and is now at rest in her heavenly home.

Memorial services will be held on January 7, 2006 at the Word of Life Fellowship, 5300 Stine Road in Bakersfield at 11 AM.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leona Benson, and by brothers Allan, Raymond, and John Wesley Benson.

She is survived by her two sons, Lynn (wife Tessa) and Gerald (wife Virginia) Weeks of Ventura, and daughter Judy Langley (husband Donald) of Bakersfield. Sisters Emma Phillips and Elsie Hayes and their families live in Bakersfield as well. Lucille also had 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Lucille was a thoughtful and compassionate friend. She had a special fondness for children and was a loving grandmother. She was renowned for her green thumb and could nurse terminally neglected plants back to life. She was most at home in her garden. She was also a resourceful and creative cook famous for her vinegar cobblers and mince pies.
