Shorty Wellman, 72 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Woodward Regional Hospital with her family by her bedside. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Faith United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charlie Baumann and the Reverend John Curtis officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 5:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m.

Zelda Darlyne (Dickson) Wellman was born on June 18, 1941 in Amarillo, Texas to Earl and Leona (Hodges) Dickson. Zelda or Shorty as she was known, grew up in Arnett, Woodward and Perkins, Oklahoma. On February 4, 1958 she married Charlie Wellman in San Diego, California; they were married for 55 years.

Shorty was a Jewelry Sales Lady for John and Juanita Daniel at Northup Jewelry in Woodward for 21 years. Outside of being a wife, mother, and professional woman, she loved playing ladies basketball, softball and coaching basketball at Kids Inc. Besides her sports, she was an accomplished indigenous beader. She enjoyed Native American arts. As most mothers and grandmothers, there was always time for the grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Charlie Wellman of the home; two children, Terry Jean (Wellman) Bussinger and husband Robert of Woodward, Michael Todd Wellman and wife Karen Eileen (Adams) Wellman of Woodward; one brother, Billy Joe Dickson and wife LaDean of Altus; six grandchildren, Tyson Bussinger and wife Peggy, Gabriel Bussinger all of Woodward; Robert Bussinger II and wife Bridget, Joshua Bussinger of Vidor, Texas, Trey Wellman, Hunter Wellman and wife Daurice of Woodward; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Ramirez and Sophee Bussinger of Woodward, Abriella, Raiyna, Robert III “Max” and Harmonee Bussinger of Vidor, Texas; the newest great-grandchild will arrive in March to parents Hunter and Daurice Wellman. Shorty is also survived by two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Robert Wellman and Margie Wellman of Ft. Garland, Colorado; James Wellman and Donna Wellman of Ringwood; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends who dearly loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Earla Jean Dickson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
