Edward Lloyd Wegner, Sr, 99 years old, passed away July 16, 2025 at The Sulphur Veterans Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Born on March 19, 1926, in Flint Michigan, he was the eldest son of Edward and Velma Wegner. Ed graduated from Fenton High School and enlisted in the United States Army, June 1944. Mr. Wegner was honorably discharged in 1946 and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Ed married Lois Jean Curtis in December 1947. A proud Spartan, Ed graduated from Michigan State University with both a bachelor’s and master's degrees in mathematics and statistics.
Ed was preceded in death by parents Ed and Velma Wegner, brothers Kenneth, Harold, and Franklin Wegner, and his beloved wife of 72 years Lois Jean Wegner. Mr. Wegner is survived by his two sons Edward “Eddie” L. Wegner, Jr. and wife Jan of Surprise, Arizona, Harold Wegner and wife Susanne of Kingston, Oklahoma, four grandchildren Amy Zang and husband Billy, Leslie Meadows and husband Brett, Edward Scott Wegner and wife Jenifer, Melinda “Mindy” Wanjala and husband John, nine great-grandchildren Lexi Johnson and husband Colby, Ian Zang, Abby Zang, Chase Meadows, Jake Meadows, Isaac Zang, Ainsley Zang, Makena Wanjala, and John “Jack” Wanjala, and one great-great grandson Jax Johnson.
In his younger years, Ed enjoyed golf and bowling and was always up for a game of cards. He was very active with the Shrine International in Lincoln, Nebraska, Muskegon, Michigan, and Kansas City, Missouri. He and Lois thoroughly enjoyed the weekend parades, social events, and volunteering that were part of the Shrine International. Ed served as director of Mini Model T’s and Potentate’s Aid of the Ararat Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. Ed always had more than one hobby and loved woodworking and fishing well into his 90’s.
In lieu of flowers; Memorials may be made to Shay Community Center of Kingston, Oklahoma or the The Veterans Center of Sulphur, Oklahoma. Memorial service details are pending at Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Oklahoma with Internment at The Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
