Betty Jean Shields Wayman passed away on December 4, 2017, at the age of 88 in Bethany, OK. Family visitation will be Thursday, 7-8:30 pm at Resurrection Free Methodist Church.
Funeral service is 12 noon Friday, December 8, at the Resurrection Free Methodist Church, 6000 North MacArthur in OKC.

Betty was born March 20, 1929, on a farm near Sand Creek, the second of three daughters of Joseph Lambert Shields and Mildred Lowe Shields. Betty married Hugh D. Wayman on June 6, 1947 in Enid, recently celebrating their 70th anniversary. They were blessed with five children.
She was a writer, artist, soloist and taught all ages of people from the youngest children to adults. An avid reader, she was known for her witty and informed observations.
She was a life-long Free Methodist and a Deaconess, serving the church in many capacities. Betty volunteered for 50 years as a charter member of the Auxiliary of Deaconess Hospital, serving as a volunteer chaplain.
Co-laborers for 41 years in ministry in the Free Methodist Church, Betty and Hugh pastored churches in Oklahoma, as well as serving as Oklahoma's Conference Superintendent for 15 years. Those churches were: Green Valley, Bethel, Midwest City, Sallisaw, Wright Memorial and OKC First Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Mable Shields Cook and Doris Shields Whatley.
Betty is survived by her husband Hugh and her five children: Jeannette (Frank) Meitz of Florida, Dennis (Cheryl) Wayman of California, Joy (Mike) Wilson of Washington, Danny (Melissa) Wayman of Oklahoma and Dale (Karyn) Wayman of Indiana. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who will all miss her.
