Margaret Schmitt Waters

November 16, 1925 ~ March 5, 2004

Joan Waters passed away Friday, March 5, in Las Vegas after a brief illness. Joan Schmitt was born November 16, 1925, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was raised in Ponca City, OK and graduated from high school in Bakersfield, CA in 1942.

She met Bob Waters when he was in the Army Air Corp stationed at Minter Field and married in August 1943 after a short courtship. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary in Las Vegas. After Bob graduated from Stanford University after his service, Joan followed him from California to Saudi Arabia and Iran where Bob worked for Aramco and Santa Fe Drilling before they retired to Las Vegas in 1983. Joan was actively involved in women's clubs including the Las Vegas Mesquite Club, the Las Vegas Towne Club, theatre groups, crafting, entertaining, and organizing. She was a super shopper with an eye out for the unusual. She was always ready for a game of bridge. She enjoyed meeting people in her round the world travels and will always be remembered for her lively sense of humor and distinct laugh.

Joan is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Sue Herbers (Jerry) of Torrance, CA; grandsons, Keith (Deanne) of Torance, CA and Mark (Deja) of Folsom, CA; Joan's two great grandchildren, Kyle and Harrison Herbers are the children of Mary and Deja. Joan was pre-deceased by a son, Robert Clark Waters.

A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Sunday, April 18, here in Las Vegas, at the Woman's Mesquite Club, 1-3 p.m.
