Sylvester Florenz Bold Warrior

Sylvester Florenz Bold Warrior
September 4, 1972 ~ April 1, 2017

Sylvester Florenz Bold Warrior was born on September 4, 1972 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was from the Blood Clan and descendant of Bold Warrior and Standing Buffalo of the Ponca people. Sylvester was reborn into his new life in the Spirit World on April 1, 2017. He is with his brothers Noah Hughes and Orin Geary and many other Ponca and Arapaho relatives.

Sly was an intelligent, articulate person who championed minority rights and opposed other inequalities wherever he saw them. He was also an empathetic and compassionate person who could communicate well with anyone of any age at their level. He was a dedicated vegan who opposed the slaughtering of animals for human consumption. Among his other diverse interests were Ponca language retention, philosophy, literature and Arapaho and Ponca histories. Participating in the sweat lodge was another activity he enjoyed. Sly was also a fervent believer in the Cheyenne and Arapaho Sun Dance where he was the happiest. His plans were to attend the Lakota Sun Dance this year. He was a gifted writer and loved reading and writing poetry. He was interested in and studied the arts and listening to all types of music. Sly was a loyal OU fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed spending time with his nephew Shermsie and other nieces and nephews. He treasured the time he spent with his son, Avrik and Avrik was never far from his thoughts.

He is survived by his father Sherman Bold Warrior and his significant other Kathleen D. Shea; his mother Frances C. Warrior of Ponca City; his son Avrik of Green Bay, Wisconsin; brothers Brandon and Justin Bold Warrior both of Ponca City; special friend Audrey Leclair and many other Arapaho and Ponca relatives.

There will be no funeral services. Friends and family are invited to a Remembrance service at the tribal affairs after interment. A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday. Arrangements were under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
