Helen “Eileen” Warren of Mount Vernon, Mo., passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at the age of 84.
Eileen was born to Delmar and Marcell Dodson of Reeds, Mo., in 1938.
She attended Reeds Elementary and Sarcoxie High School.
She married Jack Warren in 1955 and five children were born from that union.
After her children were of school age, Eileen pursued a college degree and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University and her master’s degree in English literature from Drury University.
Eileen spent her entire career teaching English at Miller High School while also raising a large family and helping to run the family dairy farm.
After retirement, Eileen turned her focus to antiques and operated Just Like Granny’s in Miller, Mo., for many years.
She also enjoyed hearing from many former students who were thankful and appreciative for the positive influence she made in their lives.
It was that love and desire to positively impact young lives that led her, in recent years, to support the Rafiki Orphanage in Ethiopia.
Eileen is survived by her five children, Cathy (Robert) Yeoman of Dover, Richard (Misty) Warren of Stotts City, Mo., Steven (Marci) Warren of Little Rock, Ark., Curtis (Vickie) Warren of Lockwood, Mo., and Judy Rainey of Sarcoxie, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Thomas of Reeds, Mo., and Carolyn (Raymond) Dodson of Haysville, Kan., and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home.
The family requests donations to the Rafiki Orphanage of Ethiopia.
Donations may be sent to King’s Way Christian Church at 900 W. Sloan St., Mount Vernon, MO 65712. Checks should be made out to King’s Way and denoted for Rafiki Ethiopia.
