Johnny Lloyd Ward of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Johnny was born on September 28, 1961, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind heart, helping hands, and genuine love for people. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a friend. Whether someone needed help repairing something, solving a problem, or simply needed someone to lean on, Johnny was always willing to step in. He gave freely of his time, expected nothing in return, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years. The lessons he learned through his service helped shape the hardworking, dependable, and selfless man that so many knew and loved.
Johnny worked for Mayes County Rural Water District #7, where he was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. Outside of work, he loved spending time in his shop woodworking and tinkering on projects of all kinds. He had a gift for creating things with his hands and took great pride in building, repairing, and improving anything he set his mind to. To his family, he was the trusted "Mr. Fix-It," the one everyone called when something needed to be fixed or figured out.
Some of Johnny’s happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren. They brought him endless joy, and he loved making memories with them, especially taking them for rides on the backhoe and sharing in their excitement and laughter.
More than anything, Johnny loved his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved and watching his family grow. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Betty, and together they built a family that was the center of his world.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Betty; their children and grandchildren: Amber Ward and her daughters, Nevaeh and Sophia, of Wilber, NE; Derek Ward and his wife, Sara, and their children, Hannah, Shae, and Brooklyn, of Casper, WY; Josie Foster and her husband, Jordan, and their children, Joshua, Carter, and Charli, of Pryor, OK; and Tyler Nielsen and his wife, Sadie, and their children, Braxton, Liam, Blaine, Lucas, and Braeson, of Pryor, OK.
He is also survived by his parents, John and Mary Sikes, his sisters, Brenda Morris and her husband, Nick, and Jonette Duck and her husband, Stan, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Danny Ward.
Those who knew Johnny will remember his generous spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the love he poured into his family. He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, builder, problem-solver, and teacher. His laughter, stories, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who were blessed to know him. Though he is no longer with us, the stories he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved him.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
