Raymond Walters

Raymond Walters
May 23, 1940 ~ March 11, 2022

Raymond Walters was born May 23, 1940, in Proctor, Oklahoma to Lafey (Punk) Walters and Fannie (Vaughan) Walters. He passed on March 11, 2022, at the age of 81 years. He was raised in Red Bird Holler. He attended school at Sanders and Stilwell High School.

As a young man he made trips to California (Hitchhiking) several times, and said he picked a lot of cotton as a child.

In 1962 he married Ilene Kindle, who was born and raised in Turkey Holler, Oklahoma. Raymond and Ilene were both from poor families that were full of love. He loved his family and early life, but he made it a goal in life to never be poor again. He and his family lived in Tulsa, OK, where he worked at Yuba Heat Exchangers from 1962-1970. Raymond and Ilene both worked hard and raised their two sons, David and Brad, on a small farm in West Siloam. From 1982 to 2003, he started to sell used cars in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Around that time, he bought 620 acres in Red Bird Holler, he loved to spend many hours improving the land, pond and deer hunting. He enjoyed spending this time with his sons and nephews. He sold the Car business in 2003, when his health started to decline. But he never stopped working. In 2013, he sold the land in Red Bird Holler and bought a bar – yep, a bar! Ilene was mad at him for a very long time, but he and Nick had plans. Nick had his first responsible job for 5 years. Raymond (Pops) made a lot of new friends at Red Dirt, and he became “Pops” to a lot of young people.

In 1988 he got his first Grandson Nicholas (Nick) who he and Ilene raised and later adopted him as their own, which upgraded him from Grandson to Son. So that gave Nick two sets of parents. Mamaw & Pops and Brad & Robin.

He enjoyed buying and selling land, along with bulldozing and brush hogging, no one could do it better than him, not even Brad and David. Even after his strokes. He also liked being outdoors, hunting, fishing, raising cattle, old cars

Raymond leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife, Ilene Walters of the home, his children: David Walters and wife Teresa, Brad Walters and Nicholas Walters, grandchildren: Luke Walters, Jaden Farmer, great grandchildren: Ronnie King, Willie King and Desmond Walters, brother Arlus Walters and wife Lynda and their son Mike Walters, Joyce K. McDonald and husband Larry and their children Joye and Cory.

Preceding him in death were his parents Lafey and Fannie Walters four brothers Franklin, Floyd Ray, and Curtis and an infant brother Virgil.

Funeral Service was held 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, OK.
