Kenneth Wallace was born February 3, 1946 to Thomas L. and Bernice Andrews Wallace in Lawton. He passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his home in Houston at the young age of 68.
Kenneth united with Bethlehem Baptist Church at a young age. He was baptized by the late Rev. O.B. Davis and was a member of the Royal Ambassadors where he sang in the junior choir.
He graduated from Douglass High school in Lawton in 1964. A very gifted and talented athlete who excelled in football, he set several records that stood for many years. His record of an amazing 35 career touchdown catches marked his historic membership to Oklahoma's All-Century High School Football Team. He was recruited by numerous colleges for a full ride scholarship. He chose to remain in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State in Stillwater. There he graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education with a minor in business.
He married Mildred Cannon in 1968.
After Graduation, he accepted a position with Foley's Department Store in Houston as a manager trainee and was quickly promoted to a Department Manager. He remained there for several years before deciding to move to Illinois and accepted a position as a Park Director for the City of Markham Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. With this career choice he impacted the whole community and was a role model for the youth and elderly. His effort equaled that of his performance on the playing field. He then returned to Houston to work for the City of Houston as a Park District Director where his influence was outstanding. His work ethic was remarkable and he never missed a day of work. He was able to retire in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Thomas L. Jr., a niece Jacqueline Wallace and nephew Kevin Delaney.
Survivors include four sons: Kenneth Wallace, Keith Wallace and wife Loni, Jason Wallace, Lance Wallace all of Houston; brother Charles Leonard Wallace, Lawton; sisters Grace Delaney and husband James, Seaside, Ca, Claudette Peck, and Loretta Wallace, Lawton: nieces, Sheryl Delaney, Los Angeles, Ca, Vivian Wallace, Chalonda Wallace and Shaun Lusby of Lawton, Carol Smith, Houston, Tx, and Stephanie Dunston and husband Antonio, Columbus, Ga; nephew, James Delaney and wife Mitra, Holland, MI, Michael Delaney, Seaside CA, and Charles Lamont Wallace, Lawton; grandchildren, Krystal and London Wallace. He also had numerous extended family members and friends.
