Funeral services for Beulah Widney Wall of Norman, Ok will be held at 10 AM on Monday August 27 at the Alameda Church of Christ. Beulah was born on May 7, 1911 and passed away on August 23.
Beulah was the 9th of thirteen children. Her parents bought a soldiers land claim in 1894 and homesteaded a plot of land east of Fay, Oklahoma in the western part of Oklahoma where she spent her early years. She went to Southwestern Teacher’s college at Weatherford for 2 years and later finished her A. B. degree in English and Music in 1935. She taught English and Music in several schools in Oklahoma and started a band in Talihina, Ok. She received her Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Music and English.
She married Leon Wall on December 27, 1935. Beulah and Leon moved to Washington D.C. in 1940 to work for the Bureau of the Census. Later Leon then began working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and as he progressed through several jobs, Beulah also became involved in the education of Indian children in North Dakota, Nevada, Arizona and Oklahoma.
In 1971 Leon retired and they moved to Oklahoma City to a house with a large pool. She attributed her longevity to swimming almost every day. She loved to travel and visited many parts of the world and had many exciting adventures to share. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In her 80’s, she learned how to use the computer and wrote 11 books on geneology, the Oklahoma City bombing and several other topics She also enjoyed corresponding with several dozen students in Nigeria using the World Bible Correspondence. She was active on her computer sending emails and playing computer games almost to the end of her life.
In 1987, Leon died of cancer but she continued an active life through travel. In 1989 she took her children and 6 grandchildren to Hawaii for Christmas. In 2008, she began losing her ability to walk and moved out of her house and eventually went to Brookhaven Extensive Care in Norman. She served in several AARP offices but especially enjoyed helping with the AARP Taxaide Program. She enjoyed talking with people about taxes and tried to put them at ease about the tax law. She was a member of Oakcrest Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, but she has been unable to attend lately due to physical restraints
She is survived by her children Jerry and Katharine Wall of West Monroe, La, and Gary and Joan Baird of Norman, Ok. She has 6 grandchildren: Alan and Barbara Baird of Pfluegerville, Tx, Daniel and Kirsty Baird of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil, Derek and Julie Looper of Norman, Ok. Christopher Wall of Dorset, VT, Stephan and Lauren Wall of West Monroe, La., and Alison Wall of West Monroe, La. She has 3 great grandchildren: Olivia and Isabella Baird of Pfluegerville, Tx and Braden Looper of Norman, Ok.
