Thelma L. (Howell) Walker

July 13, 1924 ~ December 6, 2004

Thelma was born on July 13, 1924 in Tulsa, OK to William & Laura Howell. After losing her mother at age 5 she helped take care of her father and three brothers. On June 26, 1940, at age 16 she married Sylvester Walker in Tyler, TX and shared 64 years of memories. In the early forties they moved to California and eventually settled in McFarland where they reared their children and spent many happy years. They later moved to Bakersfield to be closer to their family.

Thelma will be remembered by all who knew her for her humor, quick wit, infectious laugh and her love of a good poker game. Thelma was a wonderful wife, mother, granny and great granny. She was the nucleus of her family and helped raise several generations. She took care of all those who needed her. She never turned away a family member or friend. She was and is deeply loved and her absence is already an unbearable ache.

Thelma is survived by her loving husband, Sylvester; son, David; three daughters, Dana, Sylvia and Laura, and son-in-law, Ernie Summers; brother, Marion Howell; grandchildren, Melanie, Berry, Miranda Bond, Chuck and Jason Holman, Lezlie Whittington, Tasha and Cianna Walker, Robbie Howell; great grandchildren, Crystal, Ashley, Charley, Amy, Matthew, Jana, and Jason and two nephews that she raised as her own, Robert (Newt) and Roger Howell.

She passed away at home with her family on December 6th. The family wishes to thank Hoffman Hospice for their care.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Coronado Baptist Church, 516 Norris Rd.
