Ralph Lane Walker

July 31, 1922 ~ December 31, 2005

Ralph Lane Walker went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2005 at the age of 83.

He lived a long and wonderful life enjoying life everyday and touching many lives along the way.

Ralph was born to Joseph and Iowa Walker in Kennific, Oklahoma on July 31, 1922. At the age of 8 he started to work on the family farm.

Later in his life he met and married the love of his life, Mildred. They were married on March 3, 1945. They moved to California in 1946.

He was employed for several years at a Sacramento cannery. In 1948 they returned to Oklahoma for a short period of time where their first child James was born. They soon returned to California and settled in the Lamont/Arvin area.

Ralph was employed by several farming companies and cotton gins in the area. In 1956, Ralph went to work for the Vineland School District.

In 1959, they welcomed their second child Brenda. Ralph continued with the Vineland School District as Head Custodian/Bus Driver until his retirement in 1983. During those years Ralph made many lifelong friends with other staff members as well as the many students that rode his bus.

He came from humble beginnings but in his 83 years touched hundreds of lives for the better. Everyone loved "Mr. Walker". He loved going to Lamont and helping someone who needed some little job done.

One of his favorite places to go was County Fair Market/Lamont General Store.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; parents, Joseph and Iowa Walker; brothers and sisters, Bonnie, Waldo, Harold, Beulah, Maudell, Harvey and Fred.

Ralph is survived by his son and daughter and their spouses, James and Julie Walker and Steve and Brenda Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason, Brian, Danielle, Kristen, and Christopher. Ralph was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Casey, Anthony, and Dawson. Ralph is also survived by two sisters, Eula and Billie Jo. Ralph was also blessed with many extended family members including Betty and Jack Holliday, {with whom he made many trips to Oklahoma}, Jackie and Leonard Denney, Tim and Linette Holliday, Chuck and Lorraine Walker, Wayne Walker and many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Nothing made Ralph happier than spending time with his family.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2006, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., at the Hopson-Anspach Mortuary, 8601 Hall Road, in Lamont.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the South Kern Cemetery District. The services will be officiated by Tim Holliday and Jackie Denney.
