Leona Daphine Walker, “Mue” as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, passed away from this life on Monday, August 17, 2020 at her home. She was born Leona Daphine Taylor on April 19, 1954 to John Fletcher Taylor and Ruth Carlton Taylor in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
She was raised, and went to school, in Wynnewood. She met the love of her life, Tommy Eugene Walker, in May of 1971 when she was 17. They were married three months later on September 3, 1971 in Nicoma Park, Oklahoma. They shared 49 years of love and laughter. Out of this union came two boys, John-Thomas (JT) Walker and Jason Lee Walker. They made their home in Tecumseh in the early 1980’s and both boys went to Tecumseh schools. She and Tommy raised their boys in the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh.
Leona spent many years as a dental hygienist with Dr. Ramey and Dr. John Brown in Tecumseh.
Mue was fun loving and spontaneous. She loved dogs and passed on her love of animals to her boys. She enjoyed road trips and vacations with her family. She and Tommy went to over fifteen Jimmy Buffet concerts over the years and she enjoyed those concerts and trips with her family and friends immensely. She loved watching her boys play football and her doors were always open to all the friends they would bring home who enjoyed her cooking and watching OU football on TV. Some of her fondest memories were of the boys playing mud football in her yard. The lights of her life were her three grandchildren, Josie Taylor Walker, Brody Eugene Walker, and Jaxon Cash Walker. She rarely missed any event they had at school or on the ballfield. They were very involved in her life and she was in theirs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Taylor-Dobbins; siblings, including Val Taylor, Jay Taylor, Jimmy Taylor, Diane Richardson and Leta Mae Hanks.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 49 years, Tommy Walker of the home; two sons, Jason Walker of Tecumseh and JT and Mindi Walker of Tecumseh; 3 grandchildren, Josie Taylor Walker, Brody Eugene Walker and Jaxon Cash Walker; her beloved brothers, Robert and Debbie Taylor of Canton, TX, Jesse and Trini Taylor of Grand Prairie, TX, RL and Lisa Dobbins of Tulsa, OK and Troy Taylor of Box Springs, TX; sisters, Annette and Randy Meredith of Ardmore, OK and Hazel and Jerry Clark of Tulsa, OK; and many loving friends and extended family. She was very close to her siblings growing up and remained close to many of them throughout her life.
The family would like to deeply thank all of their friends and family, and a special thank you to Tiffany Pine, Lisa Combs, and Karon Betts with Oklahoma Palliative Hospice Care, for all their love and support.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Robby Kinsey officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Casual Attire with Flip Flops and Masks recommended. Please join the celebration of Mue’s life through Cooper Funeral Home’s Facebook page for live streaming of the service.
