Douglas Hollon Walker, 53-year-old Freedom, Oklahoma, resident passed away on Friday afternoon June 7, 2019, in OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after major illness.
Doug’s parents were Wesley Walker and Beverly Hollon. Doug was born in Woodward on November 18, 1965. One of Doug’s favorite things as a little boy was to play with his Tonka trucks, tractors and dirt moving equipment.
Doug grew up on the Walker Ranch at Freedom, attended Freedom Schools, playing basketball and was involved in agriculture activities. He won awards for skills in farming and ranching.
Doug worked most of his life on the ranch. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator and mechanic.
Doug Walker was also known for his abilities as a meat smoker, owning and operating Walker Smokers, catering many events in northwest Oklahoma, cooking great barbecue and steaks, and traveling to Dallas for competitions.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister Kelly, and brother Kirk Walker. He is survived by his siblings, Clay Walker (Peggy), Valorie Walker Brannon (Bill), nephews Cort Walker, Adam King (Kim), Blake Rhodes, Patrick Rhodes (Sally), and niece Valerie Skinner (Andrew), and all of the Walker cousins and their families.
Also survived by an uncle, R.J. Hollon of Woodward, and aunts, Phyllis Proctor of Elk City, and Linda Tannenhill of Weatherford, and many friends.
He had an easy manner and a good sense of humor. If you ran into him he would probably be wearing his CAT cap.
He was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, rancher farmer, heavy equipment operator, smoker cooker, hunter, fisherman, worker – just a good ol’ boy never meaning no harm.
In his last days he stated that he was not afraid and that the Lord was with him.
There will be an informal memorial, the way that Doug wanted, in Freedom, Oklahoma, at the American Legion Hall at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
