Elfriede M. “Hella” Waldbauer, age 88, of Lawton passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
Hella was born in Linz, Austria in 1928 to Wilhelmenia Wimmer and Joseph Aigner.
She married James F. Keefe in 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts. She later married Karl Waldbauer.
She worked many various jobs during her lifetime. Hella was an excellent seamstress and needle worker. She owned and operated Mutti’s European Trading Post in Lawton where she taught knitting and all forms of needle work. She was an instrumental person to help form the German American Club of Lawton and was very active in the German American Dance Club of Lawton that performed several times a year. She also traveled a lot with her husband’s band, “The Polka Kings”, all over the country and belonged to the German American Club bowling team. The German American Club also started Lawton’s Oktoberfest, which had food booths in the International Festival in Lawton.
Hella loved her cat Molly and her dog Lady Bug. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, cooking and going to the casino, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and close friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Seppi Wimmer; one sister, Trude Caspers; her favorite dog, Heidi and her husband, Karl Waldbauer, Hella is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Keefe and husband Adam Newsome; one son, James F. Waldbauer and wife Lisa; two grandsons, Ryan Waldbauer and fiancée Stephanie and Erik Waldbauer; one granddaughter, Katie Newsome and fiancée Devante; four great grandchildren and two special adopted granddaughters, Rose Huchinson and Julie Foruria along with many more relatives and close friends.
