Jacqueline Lynn Vinson, age 59, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on 01 June 2017 at Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute after a courageous battle with heart disease. She was the beloved wife of Elvin Vinson, Sr.
Jacqueline was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on 29 December 1957 and grew up in Tree City, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Ruth L. Waites. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Texas with the class of 1975. On 16 June 1977 she was united in marriage to Elvin Vinson, Sr. in Lawton, Oklahoma. Jacqueline worked for the United States Government as a federal employee for over 30 years where she had countless friends before she retired in 2017 due to her illness. In her spare time she was an active member of her church and enjoyed reading, cooking, volunteering, traveling throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States, and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband Elvin Vinson Sr.; three children, Christopher R. Vinson, Tina L. Vinson, and Elvin Vinson Jr.; two grandchildren, Desire Simmons and Darius E. Vinson; one great-grandchild, Achilles Williams; her step-father Melvin Waites, Sr.; three sisters, Gloria Jones, Evelyn Pruitt, and Vickie Daniels; as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth L. Waites, and her brothers, Glenn Waites and Melvin R. Waites.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church with Reverend Crawford officiating. The Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service is in charge of all funeral arrangements. Visitation will begin on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at the Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. The family will be there until 5:00 p.m. to greet relatives and friends.
