Judith Nan (Compton) Vickers

Sept. 24, 1938 ~ April 14, 2013

Memorial Services for Judith Nan Compton Vickers, 74, of Durant, OK, will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Durant, OK, with Rev. James Blagg officiating. Judy died Sunday, April 14.

Judy was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in McAlester, OK. She was a 1956 graduate of Durant High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma, and while there was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Social Sorority. Judy graduated from Southeastern Okla. State Univ. with a degree in Education with majors in Latin and English.

Judy began her teaching career in Enid, OK and Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, teaching Latin at both schools. She obtained her Master's degree in Counseling at S.O.S.U in 1972 and joined the faculty at the Durant Public Schools in 1973 as a counselor at the Middle School and later at the Intermediate School. Judy retired in 2002.

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Ashley Ann Vickers Porter of McKinney, TX, sister, Jackie Peters of Denison, TX, parents, Jack and Virginia Compton and Vick and Velma Vickers of Durant. She is survived by her husband Tom, her grandchildren Jackson Porter, age 15 and Jenna Porter, age 11 of McKinney, TX, her brother-in-law Kenneth Peters of Denison, TX, her niece Cheryl Peters Phelps and children Ivy and Riley of Hollister, CA. and very special friend and caregiver Pam Boyd of Mead, OK.

In lieu of flowers, Judy desired that memorials be made to the charities of your choice.

Following the memorial service at St. John's Episcopal Church, a reception in the Great Hall, celebrating Judy's life will be hosted by members of Chapter DJ, P.E.O Sisterhood. A private disposition of ashes will occur at a later date.
